Hylas Owners Ships Blogs

The online ships logs of Hylas Yacht Owners.
ranavarro

With no trades from HI to CA, I am considering carrying 400 gallons of fuel on deck in 50 gallon barrels.  I have stainless steel rod railing from aft to the gates.  Do any of you have any advice on how to safely carry 8 barrels of fuel so that I can motor across?  The fuel will represent approximately 4000 lbs.  Is it possible to safely carry so much additional weight aft, or is it necessary to distribute some of the weight forward?

 Thank you for your assistance.

Dakare's Log

Dakare

SY Dakare (Hyals 54 - 2001)

It has been several years since we have signed into the HYOA.  The obvious birthing pains with HYOA that we experienced way back in the beginning have given way to quite a slick web site.    YellowRose (Hylas 46) started it all (In the 2001 time frame)  and in it's first incarnation, it was an email-based system.  The current version, I am happy to say, gets around some of those intial difficulties.  Very nice!

We started our website: www.Dalare.Com way back in 1998 and it captures most of what we have done over all those years.  Many of you may already be familiar with our site, for we have been visited by quite a few Hylas owners.  To all of you that have dropped by, we like to say hello again, and for those of you who have not been by, we welcome you.

My Real Web Log

dustin1

I have a complete ships log onine at www.nadagato.com. Here you can see our trip this year that started in St. Maarten and ended in Panama!

admin Today we left Casa De Campo and headed out for Boca Chica. Boca Chica was a 7 hour sail which left us arriving late into the anchorage. After successfully navigating the chanel and arriving at the marina I promptly hit a sand bar that must have been about 6 inches under water... no... you could not see it as it was late in the day and there was no current or swells to expose it. I knew better than to be going with any speed so we simply backed off then... hit it again... so... the trick.. closer to shore not closer to the sea... yea... so into the anchorage and we are good for the night!  The remainder of my blogs can be seen at www.nadagato.com.

Today we rented a scooter and explored the grounds at the marina more... yes you need a scooter.  The grounds of the compound are about the size of Manhattan.

Later in the day we took off for La Romana the town leaving the compound.  On exiting the compound gates the guard said in spanish "good luck, be careful".... OK... so into La Romana.  A great town.  Very busy and man things to see.  We had lunch at the local super market area then ventured west of town.  After a 2 hour ride on the scooter we then went back east of town to Bayahibie  (sp)

Hello,

As part of the ongoing development of HYOA.ORG we have implemented a individualized ships log system for each member registered at HYOA.ORG.  With this sytem a registered member will be able to post log entries to the HYOA web site.  Items posted to their ships blog will be avaialble for the world to read.  The hope is that more active members will post their daily cruises, experiences, pictures, movies, and problems to the site for others to read.  The members individualized ships blog will allow:

  •  Members to have an individualized place to share their sailing or cruising experience with others with no cost!
  • Members to share photos and files without maintaining their own web site
  • Non members to see the experience of the Hylas owners
  • Members to have a online ongoing log of their activities that is accessable from anywhere in the world
